Girlfriends mom was in town and she felt like cooking some menudo (Yaaas!!) Having just moved to the Frederick area and not finding decent Mexican Supermarkets that were abundant in Southern California, specifically San Diego, this place was not too bad! At the back of the shop there was an area where the meats and seafood were being sold. Fish, shrimp, seasoned steak, tripe, and even all parts of the chicken. Since we were making menudo, tripe is what we bought. There are some produce items as well that you would see in regular groceries (cilantro, limes, lemon, onion, garlic, chayote, etc) but what I thought was awesome is that they had real sugar canes (nearly 6ft tall!), cactus, and even parts of the aloe plants used for cooking! The aisles had the standard pantry items: coffee, cereal, bread, kitchenware and pots. They even have an entire wall/section made for seasonings. Near the cash register they have homemade tamales. Some where made in banana leaves and foil while others were wrapped in the corn husk (sweet tamals). I enjoyed both! Check it out and get some tamales or buy some meats for your Mexican dish!

We always stop here when we need corn tortillas. The ones that come from the gringo grocery store just don't compare. Usually we'll grab a couple of cold Mexican sodas and a snack from the checkout. They usually have pretty good empanadas, but one time I grabbed a tamale that had a single Buffalo wing and a chickpea baked into in it...a little strange, but good.
